How to Host Your Own Website
May 23, 2008
So you want to host your website? I remember years ago. It was so expensive to start a website and host it somewhere. Domain names used to cost at minimum $35 a year, now you can get them for a lot cheaper. Also, I remember my first hosting account cost me around $400 a year, for a really small plan. Thank god it isn’t like that anymore, hosting a website is much cheaper and a whole lot easier to do these days. So how do you do it?
First You Need a Domain Name
These are some of my favorite domain companies…
1. $2.99 domains from Yahoo!
2. $2.95 Domains at iPowerWeb
3. GoDaddy.com - World’s #1 Domain Name Registrar
Second You Need a Web Host
Yahoo, iPowerWeb & Godaddy (above) all offer hosting services as well. I have added some other links to companies (below)that also have some nice services. Any of the companies below work well & are inexpensive.
1. Reliable, affordable business hosting from Yahoo! Web Hosting
2. Lonex Hosting
3. Flux Services Hosting
4. HostCabin
5. 36Host Hosting
6. Site Ground Hosting
7. 123eHost
8. Host your own website from home (Great eBook if you want to host yourself)
Third Design the Site
I have been designing website’s for years. I currently use Adobe (Macromedia) Dreamweaver. Although there are many tools out there, I always tend to use it. Fair warning it’s a professional application.
1. Learn Dreamweaver with Interactive Video Tutorials
2. NEW: Easy Website Builder allows you to build your own site in just 5 minutes. No programming required. Click Here to try it.
3. An easy to use tool for webdesign is also Microsoft Frontpage
4. There are other software tools available on the net.
Once all three of those things happen you are well on your way to having a website of your own.
